I have been enjoying Grand Rapids and all it has to offer for nearly 20 years. During that time, I have been serving the community in the areas of real estate, property management, building, and maintenance. Grand Rapids offers me the opportunity to actively engage a thriving real estate market and to experience the city as it grows.
After serving a tour of duty with the Marine Corps in Djibouti Africa, I set out to earn my Real Estate salesperson and Builder’s licenses in 2004 and followed up with my Real Estate Broker’s License in 2011.
In 2005, I began flipping homes in my free time and this really helped me to understand the local housing market and find creative ways to maximize my returns. On my best flip I netted $30k; on my worst I lost $3,000. I also had one true flip on a home which I only owned for 15 minutes. After a few years of flips and rehabs, I purchased my first two rental homes in 2007 on the Northwest side which I still own today.
Real estate has many ups and downs and always provides unlimited learning potential. After several years of managing homes on my own, I teamed up with Access Property Management Group. I was AMAZED to learn what I had been missing by sticking with my old ways of managing homes and knocking on doors all the time. Access opened my eyes to the technology of property management and I have never looked back.
Today, our office staff of two manages 300 leases by fully leveraging the advantage that technology offers us, attending local and national conferences and keeping up with Fair Housing Law.
In August of 2015, we decided to change our office hours by closing the office on Tuesdays and Fridays. Many owners were wondering what was going on for a business to only be open 3 days a week? The answer was easy – the other two days we check on home conditions, perform inspections and occupancy checks and follow up with vendors. Our philosophy is that we cannot know your property if we never see it and we wanted to avoid closing the office unexpectedly! To say the least, our owners have loved the idea. We began handing out our cell phone numbers and owners love the convenience of instant contact with their property manager with a direct phone call or text.
I moved to Kalamazoo in 2002 while attending Western Michigan University and graduated in 2005 with a BA in Accounting. Since graduating, I have been involved with and in real estate companies in Kalamazoo and surrounding communities fulfilling many roles including accountant, property manager and corporate leadership. Besides one and two family rentals, I oversaw the day to day accounting of over $3 million in annual rental revenue from multi-family portfolios. My prior experiences include multi-family budgeting, government reporting and fiscal compliance for apartment communities. From a 300-unit apartment complex to a single-family home, the numbers need to be presented correctly which is why I seek to continually grow in the accounting field by attending local and national accounting conferences and continuing education related to our industry.
I received my Real Estate Salesperson License in 2013 and began to focus on single-family management and investing, eventually buying my first single family rental in October 2014. After a light rehab and a little paint I was able to lease it just two weeks after closing. I recently purchased a second investment property as a fix and flip project which is expected to provide a net profit of nearly $10K. Having a strong financial background, I thoroughly enjoy the analysis and underwriting of potential real estate deals and helping other understand exactly what opportunities may be available to them in their deals.
In 2015, I became a board member of the Kalamazoo Area Rental Housing Association – Investor Education Network (KARHA-IEN) which is the Kalamazoo division of the Rental Property Owners Association (RPOA). I am currently serving as the Treasurer of KARHA-IEN and enjoy every opportunity to talk, learn and help others learn about real estate investing.

Co-Founder | Real Estate Investor
Jennifer started in Property Management in 2007. She worked with a Grand Rapids company while also buying investment properties. She purchased her first investment property, a single family home, in 2007 with her husband, Justin. After buying several homes during the downturn in 2007-2008, they changed their focus to multifamily apartments and then to syndicating investments.
After reviewing the options for management companies in the Grand Rapids market to manage their investments, they founded Access Property Management Group in 2008. They saw the need for a company that provided individual service and care, but operated on a professional level. Jennifer has worked her way through all the aspects of property management and residential real estate from sales and maintenance to accounting and HR. Jennifer spends her time overseeing the management company, her real estate investments and her family.
As a result of being married to a retired combat veteran, one of Jennifer’s passions has become helping others deal with the effects that war has on relationships and family units. In her free time she volunteers as a mentor at a equine therapy facility. She works with veterans attending equine therapy as they rebuild their confidence, strength, hope and honor.
Jennifer loves spending time with her husband and daughters, running, horseback riding and traveling.
